While on vacation last week, after spending several days squeezing into my swimsuit and my shorts that are a bit on the snug side, while simultaneously over indulging on the wine and chocolate, I picked open one of the books that I had received recently to review for Momof6 called “Six Weeks to OMG…Get Skinnier Than All Your Friends!” written by Venice A Fulton. In the book, the author shares some very interesting tips on how to best rev-up your body’s fat-burning capabilities while watching what you eat and engaging in periods of movement each day all in an effort to lose up to 20 lbs of body fat in 6 weeks…. and OMG- Get Skinnier Than All of Your Friends!
Rev-Up Your Body’s Ability to Burn Fat
Mr Fulton makes some pretty interesting suggestions on just how to do this…. including skipping breakfast (or at least delaying it by 3-4 hours), “skinny dipping” in cold baths, and drinking a cup of black coffee before a 30-45 period of movement each morning. He backs up all of his advice by quoting the science behind it- which at least convinces me to consider these unqiue methods.
Examine What You Eat
The author advises us to eat protein at every meal- chicken, turkey, beef, fish, eggs, etc. He tells us that we do not need to pay attention to counting calories or even fats… but asks us to track just one thing- the amount of carbohydrates that we consume daily. Now truly- I have heard many people talk about low-carb and no-carb diets before…. but I have never really thought about coating carbs myself, and the first thing I did after reading this section of the book was to go and examine a box of cereal to see if this is even something on the nutrition panel on the side of the box- and there it was!
Mr Fulton also offers guidelines on eating fruits and veggies, what type of carbs and sugars to avoid, how much water to drink daily, and his opinion on low-fat foods.
Hunt and Wait
Another one of his interesting ideas is to engage in a period of movement before each meal- mimicking what our ancestors did when they had to move first in order to “catch” dinner”, and then he asks us to engage in a short “wait period” before actually eating, which is designed to trick our bodies into thinking that we “failed at hunting” which gets our fat-stores burning again before we feed our bodies.
My Take?
I am quite intrigued by these ideas…. and that intrigue alone is revving-up my motivation to try to be good to my body again and get back to eating right and exercising and maybe trying some of these fat-burning techniques too. If you are intrigued, and would like to win a copy of Vine A Fulton’s “Six Weeks to OMG… Get Skinnier Than All Your Friends”, please leave a comment below- telling me if you currently count your daily intake of carbs or not….. and on Friday July 13th I will randomly pick one commenter to win a copy of this book!
Of course if you don’t win, or can’t wait until Friday, feel free to click on the Amazon link above (an affiliate link) and buy your copy today. It officially goes on sale tomorrow (7/10).

I do not count carbs. I follow the old fasioned calories in /calories out and exercise and find i get good results if i am honest with myself. But i have to admit the book sounds intriguing!
Going along with the “hunt and wait,” if you grunt like a caveman while eating, you will burn more calories.
