Escape from Planet Earth

This animated movie takes place on the planet Baab where astronaut Scorch Supernova is a hero to the blue alien population. The story centers around Scorch getting caught in a fiendish trap set by a inhabitants dangerous nearby planet (Earth!), leaving his scrawny risk-adverse brother Gary to come to the rescue. (Opens in theaters tomorrow 2/15, rated PG).

Jack the Giant Slayer

Not a movie for younger kids, this modern-day take on Jack and the beanstalk is a bit dark and scary. (Opens March 1st, rated: PG-13)

Oz The Great and Powerful

I am a bit on the fence as to whether or not this is a “kids movie”… but this is one that I have been excited to see since I first saw the trailer months ago! It is the story of how the Wizard came to Oz, and how he chooses between becoming a good man or a great one. (Opens March 8th, rated: PG)

The Croods

This Dreamworks animation film is about a prehistoric family that embarks of a road tip of sorts when they cave they have always lived in is destroyed. It looks to be funny, whimsical, and beautiful. I can’t wait to see this one with my kids! (Opens March 22, rated: PG)

Iron Man 3

The next installment in the Iron Man series proves to be full of action and adventure. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. A movie for older fans of the series…. not for my younger kids.(Opens May 3rd, not yet rated).

Epic is an animated film that tells the story of an ongoing battle between the forces of good, who keep the natural world alive, and the forces of evil, who wish to destroy it. When a teenage girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she teams up with an elite band of warriors and a crew of comical, larger-than-life figures, to save their world…and ours. (Opens May 24th, not yet rated).

We just saw Escape from Planet Earth yesterday- and it was SO funny! My older kids were a bit grumpy that I was dragging them along to see a “little kids movie”…. but even they loved it! I highly recommend it!

We can’t wait to see Epic. This movie started out as an adaptation of William Joyce’s book, The Leafmen. If you haven’t read this with your kids you’re missing out. I’ve heard the movie isn’t much like the book now, though. We’re still looking forward to it.
