I stumbled upon this recipe for homemade donuts over at Chasing Superman this past Spring… and they have been calling to me ever since. While I try to serve good healthy choices for my kids at meal time, I have a particular weakness for donuts. My husband shares this affection, and he has been known to sneak a kiddo or two out of the house on occasion to make an early Sunday morning Dunkin’ Donuts run… so I thought it would be fun to surprise the family with some yummy homemade donuts…. both powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar varieties. Like I said, this is not the healthiest of breakfast choices.
I prepared the dough according to the instructions, and refrigerated it for 2-3 hours. Then I rolled it to about 1/2 inch thickness…
Using my biscuit cutters, I cut out the donuts, and the donut holes (and don’t forget to cook those holes…. they are one of the best reasons to make this recipe)!
The donuts are cooked in vegetable oil – just until browned, and then drained on paper towels until cool.
When they are cool- dust them with the topping of your choice… or not! They are delicious either way!
