This winter seems to be stretching on in an endless, freezing cold-fashion…. so while I spend my days buried under a pile of blankets huddled next to a space heater trying to keep warm, my mind continues to wander towards thoughts of spending a romantic weekend away somewhere alone with my husband. Now I don’t know that I could ever really pull something like this off (there is the small matter of needing someone to watch my 6 kids!), but the place where I want to go is Philly. It’s only a two-hour drive from the NYC area, and the City of Brotherly Love offers big-city amenities (great activities, museums, and restaurants) along with plush hotels, and lots of things to see and do! And I spotted a great deal at VisitPhilly.com where visitors stay two nights and get to park their car at one of the participating City Center hotels for free! So here are 5 romantic reasons to visit Philly this March!Photo credit: Philadelphia Double Tree Hilton City Center
#1 Enjoy the comforts of a luxury hotel room complete with warm chocolate chip cookies!
Just think of it- a clean, peaceful, tastefully-decorated room with fluffy white towels and wonderful-smelling bath products…that is drenched in…. quiet. A room where I don’t feel the need to make the bed, or even pick up after myself. Where I can take a hot bath and no one will disturb me. Where I can grab a couple of warm chocolate cookies from the desk when I check in- and then eat them ALL by myself without having to share (well, I’d share them with Steve of course!). Sounds pretty decadent, doesn’t it?Photo credit: MuralArts.org
#2- Take the Love Letter Tour
While it’s a wee bit cold for taking a walking tour around the city these days, this Love Letters Train Tour sounds perfect for a romantic weekend! It’s a hour 90 minute narrated train ride through the city to check out 50 billboards placed on top of buildings- which represent a love letter from a guy to a girl, and from the artist to his hometown.Photo by R. #3- Attend the Flower Show
This year the Philadelphia Flower Show has paired art galleries throughout the country with award-winning flower and landscape designers to create an amazing exhibition called ARTiculture. The Flower Show is taking place now through March 9th, and since it feels like it will still be weeks (and weeks!) until we see flowers growing outside again- this sounds like a perfect thing to do on a romantic weekend!Photo courtesy of XIX Nineteen
#4 Dine beside the Fire at XIX Nineteen
I am not interested in the fancy elaborate four-course meal in the dining room these days. I would much rather cozy up by sharing a few small plate appetizers and a tall glass of wine next to a fire. This spot inside of the library-style bar at XIX Nineteen looks amazing!Photo via Shane Candy
#5- Indulge my Sweet Tooth!
Before we leave town, we’ll certainly need to stop by Shane Candy- the oldest continuous confectionary in United States! It will be ahrd to choose from their handmade chocolates or the item they are famous for- clear toy candy!
Philadelphia is the perfect spot for a getaway! Stay for any two consecutive nights at one of twenty participating hotels and your car stays free! For more information and to book your room visitphilly.com/overnight.
