I came across this idea for Carmelized Tomato Paste in Bon Appetit magazine this month, and immediately went and found the article online and pinned it! It is a simple idea to “jazz up” pasta sauce, pizza sauce and more- and all you need is olive oil (or even vegetable oil) and tomato paste!
(click on the image above to visit my Pinterest board!)
It took less than 10 minutes to carmelize the tomato sauce on the stove top in olive oil (and I would actually less olive oil than the recipe calls for next time, using maybe a 4:1 ratio of olive oil to tomato sauce). I simply heated it while stirring until it turned a deep crimson, and smelled amazing!
I then used it to “doctor up” a plain old jar of Ragu tomato sauce- and the effect was fantastic! Bon Appetit suggests just using a dollop of your carmelized tomato paste, but I added a little in at first- tasted it, and then dumped the whole amount in!
It was so tasty…. I am still thinking about this tomato sauce two days later! And it’s simple enough that you can do this any time that you are throwing together a quick pasta dinner for the kids!
Have you made anything lately from something your’ve pinned on Pinterest? Or do you have any great pins to share with me for something new I should try to make? Please leave a comment (and a link!) and share!

Thanks so much Dawn! It is really yummy!
This is wonderful! Just yesterday we ate that plain, old, bought-at-the-store spaghetti sauce and I wished for a way to make it taste better. Thanks for posting this! Lisa~
