Okay- PLEASE tell me that you know about the new video series showing on the Discovery Channel right now called “Frozen Planet” AND that you watched it with your kids last Sunday evening? It is just SO fantastic that I wanted to make sure that everyone who stops by Momof6 knows what a great program it is and how you should really be watching it with your family (even you, Christine from The Aums, who doesn’t own a TV)!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this new series, it is one of those incredibly-shot nature films that leaves you watching with your mouth hanging open in awe. This series is made by the same team that filmed Planet Earth and Life and this one focuses on life in the Earth’s two polar regions…. the north and south poles. It took a team of naturalists, photographers, and videographers 4 years to capture and edit all of this incredible footage… and the results are just unbelievable.
Here’s a peak of two of our favorite scenes from the first hour of last week’s episode. But first a warning: you know, all animals have to eat. Killer whales and seals alike…. so if you are uncomfortable with watching one animal hunt another for food, you might want to skip this one (but don’t worry- you won’t see any graphic footage of the seal actually being killed and eaten).
And this scene of male penguins preparing their nests of stones before the females arrive, made my kids laugh out loud!
So in case you missed it, the first 2-hour episode of Frozen Planet is re-airing tonight at 9m and 11pm EST on the Discovery Channel…. so Tivo / DVR it and watch it with you family tomorrow!
And here’s another little preview… these same filmmakers have a new Disney Nature movie coming out on April 20th for Earth Day called “Chimpanzee”…. my kids are already begging me to see it!
So tell me… are you watching “Frozen Planet”, and are you as enthralled as I am?

Phenomenal program. Impossible to watch and not have empathy for wild animals and our planet. Beautiful told stories and breathtaking footage. LOVE IT!

I completely agree Valerie… it should make us all want to be better caretakers of the planet.
LOL…I felt excluded when I read the title of your post until I saw my name! This is perfect, as we are getting ready to head to grandma and grandpa’s for Spring Break where the kids get a solid year’s worth of TV watching in one week. I’ll ask them to record it somehow as I still don’t know what Tivo/DVR are. The Chimpanzee movie looks fantastic and I’m excited to know it’s coming out soon!

I haven’t seen it yet but a friend of mine told me as well that this program is good. I think I might just wanna watch this together with my kids. I kinda feel sad for the seal, but that’s the reality of life. We can’t do anything about the predator-prey relationship. Thanks for the share!
