5 Things I Hope to Get To… Now That the Kids Are Back in School!

Listable Life Badge

Yes today is the first day of school for our kids- and while I know that my eyes will be full of tears as I head back home from the bus stop- there is a big part of me that can’t wait to have the house all to myself again! The only problem? No more summer excuses for putting things off! So as I look around here and start making up my fall ‘to do” list, I thought I would share with you… 5 Things I Hope to Get To… Now That the Kids Are Back in School!

#1- Scrapbooking

Things that need doing scrapbooks 5 Things I Hope to Get To... Now That the Kids Are Back in School!

Okay, this just might be the 47th time that I have said here on the blog that I intend to get caught up with the kids scrapbooks….. so really there is no point in having me proclaim (yet again) that this REALLY is the time that I’ll do it. But I do have a glimmer of hope that I will make some progress…. because this time I intend to tackle it digitally- by creating my scrapbook pages on the computer… using PicMonkey! I shared my first attempt at a digital page in last week’s Listable Life, and I know that I have a long way to go before I become proficient and efficient at this…. but I am hoping that I am on to something here!

#2- Paperwork Filing and General Desk Clean Up!

Things that Need Doing desk 5 Things I Hope to Get To... Now That the Kids Are Back in School!

Yep- it’s gotten a little out of control here. During the summer months (okay, maybe the spring too), I have just allowed the paperwork to pile up near my desk. I haven’t filed a thing. Those kids medical tracking spreadsheets that I talked about here in the spring, are still undone. I need to plow through these piles and get caught up! And while I am at it, going through all of the paperwork on my desk wouldn’t be a bad idea either!

#3- Dog Stuff

See this piece of woodwork in the kitchen? My adorable puppy chewed it…. 3 years ago! I think he is safely out of the wall-eating stage and we can replace it now. Oh, and that same cute puppy needs a haircut- AND a bath. Pronto!

#4- Be My Own “Geek Squad”

Things that need doing Computers 5 Things I Hope to Get To... Now That the Kids Are Back in School!

Yes, I worked in IT for like 10 years…. but I never take the time to address my own computer issues at home (unless of course, it is MY laptop!). See this lovely group of old laptops? Most of them were lovingly passed down to us by family members who upgraded their own. And I am sure with a little time and attention, I can get these puppies to do a few basic things like access the internet and allow the kids to work in Google docs for Pete’s sake. Or optionally, I can just allow them to continue to sit here unused until my kids computer software skills surpass my own (say, 6 months from now), and allow THEM to fix it!

#5- Hit the “30 Day Shred”

I’m BFF with Jillian, too. Not sure how she’ll fit in my new schedule. Still thinking about that one.

I started digitally scrapbooking with Creative Memories last spring when I did a First Communion Album for my 2nd grade son. So much easier than traditional scrapbooking. You don’t need the CM software to do it. It just helps with organizing everything, and makes it easier to create the pages. There’s lots of freebies out there.

For printing, I used Persnickety Prints. They had a great price, great customer service, and cheap shipping. You can also buy printing credits at a discount.

I find that unless I keep my 5:30am date with Jillian, it just doesn’t happen. All day long I’ll let everything else get in my way!
Thanks for the tip on Persnickety Prints. I’ll look into them!

This is a though provoking post… I still have one at home right now, and my oldest are only in half day, but I’m sure there is something I can get to with less kids around the house. Maybe I can focus a little more time on my blog :)

That’s how I started my blog nearly 2 years ago… I found I had a little extra time when my youngest started pre-school, and BOOM! I found how to lose all of that extra time plus much more in the blink of a blogging eye! :)

Love your list!!! I have too many things to even figure out where to start and since my kids are not even close to attending school they will likely continue to be put off! I really do need to start working out again. It helps me destress. Think I may have to dust off the 30 day shred DVD. Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah- you kinda gotta give yourself a “bye” on decluttering the house until your kids are school-aged. It is just too hard to manage working and kids and clutter all at the same time! And I will tell you, I was up at 5:30am doing the “Shred”- it kicked my butt but I am so glad that I did it!

You look more organized than me — even when you feel unorganized. I did do a little rehab on an old PC after school started and now my youngest has stopped asked for a new computer at Christmas.

I am impressed by your computer rehab skills! Tonight I spent a few minutes on a PC that I supposedly “fixed”…. and it was still unusable! Ugh….
