5 Things I Like About Myself

Listable Life Badge

I am usually not one to brag about myself…. in fact I think that most women are more likely to deflect a compliment than to accept it when offered…. so to actually announce the things that you like about yourself in a blog post is a little unnerving! So I will take a deep breath *inhaling* and here I go!

5 things i do each week4 5 Things I Like About Myself

1. I am super organized

Yes, you knew that already…. but I really am proud that I am an organized person. If I wasn’t such a meticulous list-keeper and note taker, there is just no way I would be able to manage such a busy household of 6 kids with all of their sports and activities as well as working from home!  I am really proud that this is a skill that I developed and expanded upon over the years… and I love how it improves my life!

2. I am a good cook and baker

When I have the time, I really enjoying cooking dinner for my family and baking sweet treats. But the real reward is hearing my kids get excited when they figure out what I am making for dinner and start talking about it with one another….. and then watching them gobble it up when I serve it! Of course this doesn’t happen with every kid at every meal…. there is always some picky eater that protests the evening offerings, but for the kids that I make happy? Well, it feels so great! And I do know that it IS because I really am a pretty good cook and baker!

3. I sound confident on camera

So I signed up for this iVoices opportunity with iVillage nearly 2 years ago, because I really thought that I could do it. And over the last year, improving my “craft”…. becoming more comfortable speaking my mind on camera (want to hear my thoughts on gay marriage anyone?), and being able to do so without lots of re-takes and tons of “ummms” and “errs”… well, I am pretty proud that this is a skill that I am developing!

4. I can figure things out by reading something online or in a book

I can do just about anything and solve just about any household problem by Googling it, reading up on it, and then doing it. An example? I wanted to set up a You Tube channel for Momof6 and do it the “right way”… so I found a book to teach me. I know that if I can read the book then I can write my own plan of attack based on what I read and took away as tips. Last fall when I wanted to redesign my blog and switch themes… I consulted all kinds of tutorials online. And then jumped in and did all of the work myself, without the help and expense of a blog designer. Now it’s not to say that I couldn’t have done an even better job with my site if I had just hired it out…. but I get immense satisfaction out of a job well done- all by myself! And really- I think I can Google and learn to do almost anything I want to do…..

5. I make gratitude part of my everyday life

I am very conscious about not taking things for granted. When I am driving away from my kids’ school after one of their events, like last week’s Field Day, I have an immense feeling of gratitude that we found this fantastic school district for our kids, that we are blessed to have such great teachers and support staff that educate them, care about them, and support their love of learning. I am grateful for all that Steve and I have in our lives- our beautiful home, our incredible family…. even the fact that he and I managed to find one another in this big ole’ world…. and see each other as the one to spend the rest of our lives with. I realize that this situation, this abundance, this life doesn’t happen to everyone…. and so every day I feel gratitude for it. And I sure I hope that I am teaching my kids to feel the same way about their own lives.

I think most of us feel gratitude when we stop and think about it…. but for me it is really how I look at my life… I am lucky and grateful to be living it. And I am also grateful to you for being a great virtual-turned-real-life friend, and partner in this Listable Life link-up!

OK, once again you expressed my feelings (the post on gay marriage) exactly how I feel but much better than I ever could. Thank you for that. I posted it on Facebook and suggested your blog to anyone interested in organizational skills, managing schedules, a household, etc.
On another note, I can add many many more things you should like about yourself. Including being a good friend!!! :)

Ah, thank goodness for your organization! Because if I keep reading your blog, I hope that a little at a time, it will rub off on me. Also, it’s so cool to see that gratitude is part of your daily life. I LOVE that!

Thanks Ilene! It has taken me a long time to get to this point of super-organization! Bit by bit I just keep working on it…. re-examining how I do things when I notice things start falling through the cracks!
