Are All Video Games for Kids Really “Evil”? (This Mom Doesn’t Think So!)

Are all video games for kids

As parents we hear so many messages that kids today spend far too much time in front of electronic screens- TVs, computers, video gaming devices, cell phones, iPods, etc. And while I absolutely feel strongly that there should be boundaries and limits in place (as in nearly ALL things!), I do think that overall we as parents give electronics a “thumbs down” much of the time… when in truth- not all video games are created equal, and certainly not all video games are “evil”!

My children have had the benefit of playing with games that are educational (hello online math program!), and all summer long we have committed to dancing with Just Dance games for the Wii- and it has been a fantastic way to get us to exercise together. So I say that just because it is an electronic game doesn’t mean that it is “all bad”!

My family and I are part of Ubisoft’s Just Dance Just Sweat Dream Team, a gig I am thrilled to be part of as a member of Clever Girls Collective! The content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Great post! I agree with you. I do not believe all video games or any screen time for that matter is evil. I do have rules at my house about how much is allowed and WHAT is played or watched. I would compare media to food. As parents we want what is best for our children’s health so we feed them healthy food in the right amounts. Same holds true for screen time I think the right things for the right amount of time are great for our kids’ brains.

Erin-
Such a great comparison! It is like food- you can eat junk food, you can eat too much food- but the right food in the right amount is the way to keep your body healthy. Thanks for pointing this out!
