How Do You Get Your Kids to Care About Tooth Brushing?

Brushing with Tooth Tunes

It is an on-going battle in my house to get my kids to brush their teeth well. And we are in that in-between stage for many of them, where I don’t want to line them up and brush for them because they are old enough to possess those skills… but yet- unless I am standing there and hovering, they are really just fooling around- or brushing for 6 seconds total tops! I needed the right tool…. the right motivation…. the right bribe!

And lucky for me…. ARM & HAMMER™ sent One Direction my way! Well, kinda of- it’s not like Harry Styles came to my house or anything to take over the tooth-brushing-supervisor duties around here. But that would have been nice. Instead they decided to send my family a cool Tooth Tunes™ toothbrush- which is the only toothbrush that plays One Direction in North America!

Of course it would have been even better for them to send me a solid 1/2 dozen of these babies- because as soon as I opened the box, a pre-tween fight ensued around here with everyone vying for the right to be the one to try the Tooth Tunes™ brush…. it got so bad I ended up resorting to pulling a name out of hat, and then spent the better part of the next hour counseling various kids on the finer points of being a gracious winner or loser. (Ah.. parenting….)

But… back to the toothbrush- and why you NEED this thing in your life… and in your child’s mouth. Ready? It plays the song for 2 minutes! Do you know what I would have done previously to get my kids to actually brush their teeth for a full 2 minutes?  Pretty much anything! (Except for a candy bribe because that pretty much defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?) And apparently all I needed to do was to provide the right music! Because the Tooth Tunes™ toothbrush streams sound vibrations from the bristles of the toothbrush through the teeth, allowing kids to hear the music while they brush. It’s like One Direction is in your brain! Cool, right?

This is neat. I bet my kids would like this! Thanks for sharing it.

Just recently I purchased from amazon a little square timer with a light. it has two buttons one for hands and one for teeth..the light flashes green while they brush and then speeds up as it is about to be done–for the two minutes and then red to stop. It has really worked for my tweens and teens.

Funny story–in their bathroom I have a print that says…brush the ones you want to keep with a toothbrush and teeth. So last summer we were at a nearby fair and carnival…and as my children got off one of the rides they said to me in a quiet voice–he must have really liked those two teeth because all the rest of them are gone. ::smile::

Have a great day!
