It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a Share Your Life post here at Momof6, and I thought today would be really great time to check in and share with you some of the things that I have been up to. This weekend was actually the first time that I’ve had a chance to really mellow out and get some things done that I have been wanting to do. After almost a week of rain that partially flooded our basement….. and another rained-out Saturday, we were finally met with beautiful blue skies on Sunday. I took my kids out to Secaucus New Jersey to see Field Station Dinosaurs (I’ll be sharing a little bit more about this next week!). And on Monday we had the most glorious blue-sky mid-seventies kind of day and it was a perfect day to just be outside!
And watch my husband tend to his bees….
I spent some time planting flowers (which is kind of my annual Memorial Day tradition)… I added these bright yellow pom-pom style marigolds to my flower beds. It’s one of the few plants that deer won’t eat!
I planted lavender (Provence- perennials) in our flower boxes, and I’m hoping these do really well this year and last over the winter! For me there is nothing better than rubbing my hands against these plants before entering or leaving my house, and inhaling the delicious delicate scent of lavender all summer long. This is truly something that I do, just for me!
I also added some lovely new hanging baskets to our side porch. I hope that I can stay dedicated to watering them regularly so that they stay this beautiful! (I don’t have a good track record in this department!)
I also did plenty of grilling and baking and creating some new desserts that I’ll be sharing here in the next few weeks….. which brings me to a cool story that I want to share with you about some really great customer service that I experienced this weekend. On Monday morning I came downstairs and proceeded to turn on the burner on our stovetop in order to boil water to make hot tea (another thing that I do for myself) and I realized that our propane stove seemed to be out of propane, which is really unusual. In 13+ years of living in this house- that’s never once happened…. and I could smell a very strong smell of propane in my kitchen….which made me a little nervous (was something going to blow up here in my kitchen?!)
Fortunately my husband was home and I called him downstairs to investigate. He went outside and looked at the gauge on the propane tank and indeed it was empty. So he called the propane company and found out that it has been almost a year since they filled the giant tank…. but typically tanks of this size last people anywhere from 15 -18 months, so they didn’t even think that we were due for a refill. My husband explained that his wife does a lot of baking and a lot of cooking and we probably go through propane faster than most households!
So we were prepared to not be able to use our stove or oven all day on Monday…… but literally within 30 minutes- the service provider showed up and refilled our propane tank! It was just so wonderful to have something taken care of so easily that I really thought was going to be a much bigger problem! So a big thank you to Halstead Quinn for such great service!
I also tried out my new Mother’s Day hat! (What you think?) See…. I’m not much of a hat person. I don’t know if it’s the glasses or the shape of my head or what…. but I truly almost never wear a hat. However I was in desperate need of one to help save me (and my light-colored skin) from the sun…. so my husband purchased this one for me for Mother’s Day this year. So I’m now tryin’ to work the hat thing…..
So that’s what I’ve been up to! I would love to hear what you’ve been doing! Iif you’ve written a post lately that shares your life please link it up below or leave a comment and tell me about it!
