Ladies and Gentlemen…. Start Your Engines! {Share Your Life}

Start Your Engines

The calendar page has flipped over to April, the days are getting longer and warmer… and that means it is time for “Spring Chauffering Season”! That’s right- time to rev up those minivan engines and get ready for the never-ending hussle of who-needs-to-be-where-at-what-time scramble!

Are we ready for this?

Ooooo- I am realizing just how spoiled I was during the fall sports season was Steve was around all of the time and could ake over some of the driving duties. Now it’s all on me- and I am being put through my paces! Some days I even have to take a sticky note and block out the times I have to leave for drop offs and pick ups- just to make sure that none overlap and that I don’t leave some poor kid stranded on a soccer field somewhere….

Spring Chauffeur Season the list Ladies and Gentlemen.... Start Your Engines! {Share Your Life}I was comparing notes with another Mom while we watched our kiddos at diving lessons last week- and I asked her how she managed to feed everyone dinner. She told me that she cooks dinner at 11am and has everything ready for re-heating when the kids have time to eat it. One son might eat dinner at 4pm before heading off to a practice, and the other might warm his in the microwave to eat around 6. Mom catches it when she can- in between running the kids from place to place.

I admitted to ordering in pizza…. again.

Which is one step better than this…

Spring Chauffeur Season dinner on the road Ladies and Gentlemen.... Start Your Engines! {Share Your Life}A bowl of lukewarm plain pasta eaten on the way to soccer practice. Way to carb-load…. right?

Now before you get all judgey-Mcjudgerson on me and tell me that kids need to have downtime in their life- I know. And they do. No one kid is over-scheduled (okay, maybe my 7th grader is, but he wants to give track a try for a few weeks and see if he likes it… and I’m okay with allowing him to be a little over-scheduled for a short period of time to stretch his wings)…. for the most part, each child just has an activity two or three days a week. It’s ME that is over-scheduled…. trying to get everyone where they need to be!

But I have a hard time asking all of them to cut back just to make things easier on me. This is part of what motherhood is about…. donning the chauffeur hat, cutting corners on family sit-down dinners once in a while, and doing the best that I can.

Are you wearing the chauffeur hat this spring season? Leave a comment and tell us about it!

Each Tuesday I host a Share Your Life Link-Up- a place where you can link up any post that shares a bit of your life! Feel free to grab the Share Your Life badge over in my right sidebar- but most of all… please link up!

Hey Sharon, I limit my crew to two extra-curricular activities if I have to chauffer them around. If they ride with another friend, activity bus, ride a bike then they can load up as long as their grades continue to stay at the same level and I’m not experiencing behavior problems (such as not wanting to wake up for school cause they are too tired). My three youngest get easily overwhelmed so they don’t try for activities just yet (ages 7-10), they know their limits thankfully.

Have you tried bento boxes? They have some that you can nuke to make the food warm, others you slide in a thermal lunchbox made for that bento box. They are pricey, but in the long run, not so bad.

Good luck my blogging friend.

Hey Erica-
I always say that I don’t want to sign my kids up for an activity if I know that the only way that they are going to get to/from that activity is if I rely on another parent to get them there. Maybe I should relax that rule a little! But that might lead to more activities- and I am not sure that I want that either!

And I haven’t tried bento boxes…. I need to look into that!

WOWZA! I still have toddlers… Well, ok, a preschooler and a toddler. So, right now it is just heading back and forth to school and the library. But I am trying to decide on soccer or t-ball for my 3 1/2 yr old. He is showing big interest in both, so I don’t know yet. But, way to go you for getting people where they need to be and doing what’s best for all – you are a super mom!
